Regina Souls Harbour patrons were treated to a special Chinese New Year meal Thursday night entirely from community donations.

Several Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants donated food for the feastand a number of volunteers from the Chinese community helped serve about 250 guests.

Souls Harbour said these kinds of events are a special treat for their patrons because they don't normally have the foodon their menu.

"We thought it's a very good idea to share some food at Souls Harbour," said Dr. Im Ooi, who organized the dinner. "Everybody loves Chinese food."

Chinese New Year officially rings in on Monday, but the celebration is much longer.

"Since we celebrate for 15 days, and we're probably eating for 15 days, one big meal for Souls Harbour is really the least we can do," said Ooi.

"It's a lot of fun for us, it's very gratifying. We enjoy sharing."

Souls Harbour said any group or organization can sponsor a meal at the soup kitchen. People can select from a menu that Souls Harbour chooses, or supply their own dishes.
