2 Sask. companies fined for safety violations

Apex Distribution and SJLL construction were fined for violations of worker safety laws.

Two Saskatchewan companies were fined in MelvilleProvincial Court this week for violations of worker safety laws.

Apex Distribution was fined$110,005 after pleading guilty to failing to ensure that only trained operators were using mobile equipment.

An employee was seriously injured on Feb. 12, 2015, nearMoosomin, Sask., when steel rods being moved from one trailer to another slid onto the worker.

In a separate incident, another company SJLL construction was fined $1,680.

A worker was injured with a nail gun on July 20, 2015, near Fishing Lake, Sask., but the company failed to report it to safety officials.
