Health Authority working to grow College of Medicine in Regina

An agreement has been signed between the Regina Qu'Appelle Region Health Authority and the University of Saskatchewan's College of Medicine to grow its Regina campus.

The Regina Qu'AppelleRegional Health Authority and the University of Saskatchewan's College of Medicine have signed a decade-long agreement which is aimed at growing the College's Regina campus.

Goals of the agreement include growing its research and growth to spread out students between Regina and Saskatoon at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The agreement, which runs through Jan.31, 2027, will alsowork to align the College with the new single provincial health authority.

About 40 per cent of second to fourth year undergraduatemedical students take their training at the Regina campus. All of the College's first year students are in Saskatoon.

Some of the residency positions offered at the Regina campus include family, emergency and general internal medicine, as well as obstetrics/gynecologyand psychiatry.

It is expected the agreement will improve recruitment and retention of College grads in southern Sask.

The Regina office of the College is located within Regina General Hospital.
