With just under a month to go until the CFL free agency period opens, the Saskatchewan Roughriders aren't waiting to acquire some new faces.

The Roughriders traded a pair of draft picks to the Ottawa Redblacks in exchange for receiver Maurice Price.

Saskatchewan will send its sixth round pick (45th overall) and a seventh round pick (54th overall) in the 2016 CFL Draft to Ottawa for Price and the Redblacks sixth round selection (52nd overall).

Riders general manager and head coach Chris Jones spoke highly of Price in a news release announcing the deal.

"We had an opportunity to acquire a veteran receiver with a high level of speed that can add a game breaking element to our team," Jones said. "He is an intelligent and versatile player that has succeeded playing different roles in multiple offences."

The 30-year-old Price has played in four CFL seasons with Otttawa and Calgary. The Florida native has played in three Grey Cup games, winning once with the Stampeders in 2014.

Last season, Price (6-1, 205 pounds) hauled in 58 receptions for 603 yards and one touchdown. He started in all 18 games, as well as the Western Final and Grey Cup.

On Monday morning, the Roughriders also announced they signed American defensive back Derrius Brooks.

The Western Kentucky product spent two seasons with the Stampeders in 2012 and 2013.

In 20 games with Calgary, Brooks recorded 52 tackles and five interceptions. Like Price, he also played in the 2012 Grey Cup game with the Stampeders.

Brooks, 27, went on to join the New Orleans Saints in 2014, where he appeared in four pre-season games. He was then scooped up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he spent the season on the practice roster.
