Regina police investigate explosion that put 3 men in hospital

Regina Police are investigating the circumstances that led to an explosion and house fire on Tuesday night.

The fire sent three men to hospital. Police said the injured men are 35, 28 and 19 years old. The 28-year-old man suffered minor injuries, while the other two men suffered serious injuries.

Police were called to 152 Cooper Crescent at about 7:14 p.m.CST on Tuesday night. Some callers reported there was an explosion.

People in the area said Wednesday that it was not clear, at first, what happened.

"I thought it was a neighbour who slammed the door and I thought, oh they went a little overboard," Colleen Selinger said. "Then I looked out the window and could see nothing except smoke. It was unbelievable. I couldn't even see my son's car parked in front of the house."

Selinger said smoke from the fire very intense, especially in the cold night air.

"I thought it was a huge snowstorm. Like, it was just thick," she said. "Then I realized it was smoke."

When police arrived the house was engulfed in flames and the people who were injured were being taken to hospital.

The building, a duplex, was severely damaged by the blast.

Regina fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Police are investigating any possible criminal activity.

SaskEnergy said there is no evidence of a natural gas leak at the property.
