Regina Pats on shortlist to host 2018 Memorial Cup

The Regina Pats are one of three teams shortlisted to host the league's 100th Memorial Cup.

Hamilton Bulldogs and Oshawa Generals have also advanced to next stage of bid process

The Regina Pats are one of three teams shortlisted to host the league's 100th Memorial Cup.

"With our amazing volunteer base and demonstrated ability to host major events, Regina is the natural choice to host the Cup,"ShaunSemple, president and CEO of the Brandt Group of Companies, said in a release.

"It is the perfect opportunity to showcase the long, storied history of Canada's game in the home of Canada's oldest hockey team."

The Hamilton Bulldogs and the Oshawa Generals have also submitted bids to host the historic celebration.The 2018 Memorial Cup, which takes place May 17-27, 2018, will be the Canadian Hockey League's 100th anniversary of the event.

The host city will be announced in February.

The Memorial Cup will feature a host Canadian Hockey League team along with the champions of the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League, and theQuebec Major Junior Hockey Leaguecompeting in the traditional round-robin tournament format.

Since their founding in 1917, the Pats have won threeMemorialCupchampionships.

The Regina Pats ended their 11-game winning streak on Saturday with their first regulation-time loss against the Victoria Royals.

Next year's Memorial Cup will be hosted by the Windsor Spitfires in May.
