Regina loss-prevention officer sentenced over workers' comp fraud

A Regina loss-prevention officer whoreceived workers' compensation payments he wasn't entitled to has been sentenced to six months of electronic monitoring and ordered to repay some of the money.

According to a news release from the Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board, the man was sentenced Wednesday in provincial court in Reginaafter pleading guilty last year to defrauding the board of $50,981.19.

In addition to the electronic monitoring, the man was ordered to serve a non-jail conditional sentence of 18 months, followed by three years probation.

He has also been ordered to pay back $100 a month for 60 months.

The man, whom the board didn't identify, was charged after resuming work while continuing to receive workers' compensation payments.

He pleaded guilty Sept. 29, 2008.
