Regina city council approves 2015 property tax bylaws

Members of Regina city council have given their formal approval to the necessary bylaws for the 2015 property tax bill, which includes a city tax hike of 3.9 per cent.

Council approved all the taxes people see on their bill, which covers the city, the school boards and the public library.

The city's portion of taxes are going up 3.9 per cent and library taxes are being increased 2.7 per cent.

School taxes will stay the same this year.

It's expected final tax notices will be sent out next month.

According to the city, for a typical single family house with an assessed value of $300,000, total taxes (city, library, school) this year will be $2,942. That's an increase of $68 from 2014. (That increase does not add up to 3.9 per cent, because it is the total tax, which includes school taxes which were not increased).

The 2015 dollar breakdown in taxes for that typical house is city taxes $1,713, school taxes $1,056 and library taxes $173.

Last year, the dollar breakdown was city taxes $1,649, school taxes $1,056 and library taxes $169.

The deadline to pay your property tax without penalty is June 30.
