As Khushdeep Singh tries to comfort his seriously-injured friend, he can't help but worry about his own safety.

"It kinda scares me," said Singh. "I'm actually worried to work."

Singh is a Regina cab driver. On Thursday evening, his friend and fellow cab driver, Iqbal Singh Sharma, was stabbed multiple times after an incident inside his taxi.

Police described the 31-year-old's injuries as life threatening.

On Saturday, Singh visited his friend at Regina General Hospital.

"It's not life threatening anymore but his right side might be paralyzed, which is really sad," said Singh.

"His wife has just been crying," Singh said. "She can't understand what happened, why it happened. The little kid doesn't even know what happened. We're keeping him away from his father for now. We're not letting him see that."

The stabbing has reminded Singh about the perils of his job.

"It just scares me, man. You look at the person and hope he's a good fare." said Singh. "That always pops up in the mind. You're always scared."

Altercation inside the cab

Around 9:20 p.m. CST Thursday, police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Park Street after numerous calls of a person in distress.

According to early information, it appears there was an altercation inside the cab, which continued after Singh Sharma stopped and tried to exit the vehicle.

Aside from Singh Sharma, two other males in the cab were hurt and taken to hospital.

As of Saturday, no charges had been laid, although a police spokesperson said that may happen Monday.
