Records tumble as mild weather continues in Saskatchewan

Mild weather continues in much of south and central Saskatchewan today, following a day when the mercury soared to some new records.

High temperatures were above zero in many communities and more of the same is expected today.

The warm spot in Saskatchewan was Maple Creek, where a high of 13.9 C was recorded. It wasn't a record, however: it reached 15 on Jan. 28 in 1931.

Still, records for the day were falling like melting icicles all over the province.

Here are some of the communities where records were set, the temperatures and the previous records:

• Elbow 6.3 (old record 4.5 set in 1992)
• Hudson Bay 4.1 (old record 3.9 set in 1976)
• Rosetown 5.5 (old record 4.5 set in 1984)

Meanwhile,Regina and Saskatoon were above 3, but no records were set in either city.

The mild weather is expected to continue for a few more days. Starting next week, the mercury is expected to plunge, with highs in the minus teens.
