14-year-old girl from Flying Dust First Nation dead after ATV crash

A 14-year-old girl is dead, according to Meadow Lake RCMP. Police say the girl and another person were driving an ATV and crashed into a ditch.

Meadow Lake RCMP say a girl is dead after crashing into a ditch on Saturday morning.

At about 4:15 a.m. police saw two people using an ATV without helmets in Meadow Lake, according to a Saturday news release.

RCMP say policeturned on their emergency lights to try and stop the ATV, but instead the ATV drove away at a high speed.

The release says the ATV was headed toward Flying Dust First Nation on Highway 55 and police did not pursue and deactivated their emergency lights.

Police then saw the ATV turn south off the highway and crashinto the ditch, the release says.

Officers responded immediately and one of the riders, the 14-year-old girl, was unresponsive. Police sayparamedics were called, and the girl was declared dead.

The other rider was reported to only have minor injuries and was helped by paramedics at the scene.

Police say the 14-year-old was from Flying Dust First Nation and her family has been notified.

RCMP say they are investigating with the help of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
