Province apologizes, adds more days for campers to book online

Following a chaotic start to camping registration, the Saskatchewan government is changing the system for the remaining parks.

The original plan was to allow people to book campsites ateight parks on Friday.

Following an outcry when the online system malfunctioned earlier this week, billing some people multiple times, the province decided to split its next round of bookings over several days.

Parks minister Kevin Dohertyapologized for the online meltdown during an interview with CBC Radio host Sheila Coles Thursday morning, calling it "unacceptable."

Here's the new schedule:

• Friday, March 7, 7 a.m.: Crooked Lake, Duck Mountain, Good Spirit Lake
• Saturday, March 8, 7 a.m.: Greenwater Lake, Moose Mountain
• Tuesday, March 11, 7 a.m.: Buffalo Pound, Echo Valley, Rowans Ravine

The province says its web booking system has been experiencing "very high" volumes of traffic and that's causing slowdowns.

Officials hope that splitting up the remainder of the schedule will alleviate the stress, but it's still expecting high volumes of people trying to book between 7 and 10 a.m. CST.
