A new, high-end building is coming to Saskatoon's River Landing, with Nutrien Tower planned to become the tallest office building in Saskatchewan.

Nutrien Ltd. made the announcement about its new Saskatoon office on Thursday afternoon, saying that the building will be environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient, with a rooftop winter garden and patio, fitness centre, and on-site conference facilities for its employees.

"It will define, I think, the city's skyline for years to come, and it will have the latest amenities for our workforce," said Chuck Magro, Nutrien's president and CEO.

Nutrien Tower will join the pre-existing development at River Landing, which features the Remai Modern, as well as a 17-storey hotel and a 20-storey condo building.

"This location didn't look anything like this 10 years ago. We can only imagine what it's going to look like 10 years from now as this becomes a hub for the city," said Mayor Charlie Clark, pointing to the museum and art scene, the river, and a newly unveiled Joni Mitchell promenade as part of that picture.

He also noted that the investment from Nutrien, a global fertilizer giant formed from the merger of Agrium and Potash Corp.,will lend confidence to people looking for job opportunities within the province.

"This is absolutely huge for Saskatoon," the mayor said.

According to Nutrien, the company will be moving into the development as of late 2021 or early 2022.
