'People deserve answers': NDP on land transaction

NDP deputy leader Trent Wotherspoon says Brad Wall needs to come clean on a multi-million dollar land transaction west of Regina.

CBC Saskatchewan's i-Team revealed that in 2014 the province paid more than $100,000 per acre for land, associated with the development of the Global Transportation Hub, even though a government appraisal provided a much lower valuation.

"We're two weeks away from an election, Saskatchewan people deserve answers," Wotherspoon, who is seeking re-election in the April 4 vote, said Saturday on the steps of the legislative building in Regina. "If Brad Wall's not willing to come clean, he doesn't deserve our votes."

Wotherspoon said questions about the transaction need answers.

"This is about the money of Saskatchewan people," he said. "The premier has been anything but accountable on this front."

In response to Wotherspoon's assertions, a spokesperson for the Saskatchewan Party campaign noted a review by the Provincial Auditor is underway, concerning the deal. The spokesperson added the party is confident the review will find that everything was above-board.
