Names unveiled for new Regina Catholic schools

The Regina Catholic School Board approved three names for the schools being built in Skywood, Harbour Landing and Greens on Gardiner.

St. Elizabeth, St. Kateri-Tekakwitha and St. Nicholas were chosen from 128 submissions

Regina Catholic has decided on the names for the three new joint-useschools being built in the city.

The schools are among thenine announced by the province in 2013 and will feature both Catholic and public schools under the same roof.

The Board of Trustees reviewed 128 submissions before approving the following:

  • St. Elizabeth:located in Greens on Gardiner in southeast Regina. St. Elizabeth was the mother of John the Baptist and one of the first to know of Mary's pregnancy.
  • St. KateriTekakwitha: located in Harbour Landing. St. Kateri Tekakwitha is the patron saint of the environment and ecology. She was an Algonquin-Mohawk who was shunned for her conversion to Catholicism.
  • St. Nicholas: located in Skywood. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children and students. He had a reputation for secret gift giving and is also known as Santa Claus.

Construction is set to be completed in September of 2017.
