Olympic medal-winning snowboarder Mark McMorris is thanking his supporters while recovering from surgery on a broken leg.

McMorris, who's from Regina, fractured his right femur on Sunday, the second day of the Air + Style snowboarding event in Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, he posted on Facebook and Twitter saying "words cannot begin to describe the amount of Love and Support" he has felt over the past three days.

"A freak accident occurred while competing @airandstyle LA... I have already undergone surgery on my femur and it was successful due to all your good vibes and prayer," the snowboarder posted.

During the surgery, McMorris had a nail placed in his fractured femur to help it heal. It is expected to take six months for a full recovery.

McMorris won a bronze medal at the Olympic games in Sochi, Russia, in 2014, and is considered one of Canada's best hopes forgold in 2018.
