Lest we forget, Saskatchewan

This years Remembrance Day marks 70 years since Canadas firstmemorial for its veterans.

Nation-wide, people will gather on Monday, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, to commemorate the Canadians who sacrificed their lives fightingin war.

In Saskatoon a public remembrance service will be held on Monday at Credit Union Centre. This service begins at 9 a.m. CST.

In Regina, a public service will be held on the holiday at the Brandt Centre inEvraz Place, beginning at 10 a.m. There will also be a wreath laying memorial in Victoria Park at 10:45 a.m.

Remembrance Day will also see some civic services reduced or closed in the province's two largest cities.

• Para-transit service available 9 a.m. untilnoon to attend Remembrance Day ceremonies only
• Riverside Memorial Park
• Civic Centres

Heres what is closed in Saskatoon on November 11:

• Saskatoon City Hall
• All Saskatoon Public Library locations
• Transit Customer Service Center
• Cosmo Civic Centre
• Indoor Arenas
• Fitness Circuit & Terry Fox Track (in the SaskTel Sports Centre)
• Municipal Impound Lot will not be releasing vehicles to the public

Heres what has reduced hours in Saskatoon on November 11:

• Saskatoon Transit will operate with regular Sunday/Holiday Service
• Access Transit will operate with regular Holiday Service from 8:15 am to 11:45 pm
• Transit Customer Service phone lines will be available from 9a.m. to 1p.m. and 2 p.m.to 6p.m.
• All Civic Centres open at noon and run varying hours

For Canadians, Remembrance Day has come to symbolize the sacrifice of all Canadian fallen soldiers. The public holiday now serves as a tribute to men and women who gave their livesin the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Afghanistan conflict and peacekeeping missions.
