"Members of missing Herschel resident Carol King's family have been notified as to this discovery due to the fact that the remains were found in proximity (6 km east) of the location where her vehicle was discovered in a slough on Aug. 10, 2011," the RCMP said in a release. "It is important to note that positive identification of these remains has not been established at this time."

King moved to Saskatchewan about three years ago, but was in constant contact with her family in Newfoundland.

The volunteer searcher had heard media reports regarding the RCMP request for members of the public to check their rural property in relation King's disappearance and he went to a rural property to help. RCMP investigators and a canine unit are on scene where the remains were located, the release said.

Police said they consider King's disappearance to be suspicious. Prior air and ground searches, including searches with RCMP dogs, failed to locate her.
