'He just shot him,' witness tells murder trial

The final Crown witness in the first-degree murder trial of Quinton Bitternose says he saw the accused aim a gun at Wayne Gerald Friday and shoot.

The man, whose name cannot be made public due to a court-ordered publication ban, says he was with Bitternose and several others on the night that 44-year-old Friday was assaulted, kidnapped and shot.

He told the jury on Friday that the group was in an alley behind a Regina house shortly after the victim was beaten and put into the trunk of a car.

There, the witness testified, Bitternose said to the group: "This is what happens when you f--- with Native Syndicate".

Then, "He just shot him," court was told.

The witness said he also saw another man use the same gun to fire a second shot at Friday. The culprits then drove out of the city.

The witness said he took part in dumping Friday's body in the bushes at an Indian reserve east of Regina and setting the car on fire.

Court heard previously that Friday's body was found on the reserve Nov. 20, 2004. He had been beaten and shot twice.

The witness said he hoped the Crown would be lenient with him because of his testimony.

The Regina trial before Queen Bench Justice Ted Malone and a 12-person jury resumes next week.
