Hackers disrupt Prince Albert city website

Hackers replaced the normal City of Prince Albert website on the weekend with the image of the founder of Turkey.

The city's online site had been hacked, and viewers were misdirected to another website.

As soon as the misdirection was discovered, city workers quickly changed the site back to normal.

However, keeping a step ahead of the hackers can be a challenge.

"The only way to stop it is to continually put security patches on ... and it takes a while to put the security patches in," Neil Barnes, the manager of Prince Albert's information technology department, told CBC News. "So, we're open. We're at risk for [some] months until we get the security patch in."

Barnes said research about the misdirection found thousands of other websites had also been affected by the same hackers.

He said 250,000 websites were hit.
