Daniel Richard Wolfe, a notorious Saskatchewan gang leader, is the man who was killed in a fight at the Prince Albert federal penitentiary on Monday, according to government sources.

Wolfe died in a fight involving at least 10 other inmates in the maximum securityarea of the prison.

Wolfe had recently beensentenced to life in prison on two convictionsfor first-degree murder in a gang-related incident in 2007. Wolfe killed two men, and wounded three other people, in a home-invasion style attack on rival gang members.

While he was awaiting trial, Wolfe was one of six inmates who escaped from the Regina Correctional Centre in August2008 and eventually was tracked to Manitoba and returned to custody.

Prison officials have not released much information about the Monday incident, but have reported that two other inmateswere sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No guards were injured.
