Park beside new Mosaic Stadium envisioned as pre-game gathering spot

A proposed$2.1-million refurbishment of Regina'sConfederation Park next to the new Mosaic Stadium was part of Monday's budget discussion.

The park is home to an old fountain that doesn't work but will be replaced by a modern equivalent.

Officials told council Confederation Park is envisioned as a gathering place forfans before SaskatchewanRoughriders games.

It will also be used for special events, like Queen City Ex, and possiblyeven private functions, such asweddings.

According to Regina Exhibition Association Ltd. CEO Mark Allan, for most the calendar year, members ofthe public will be able to visit the park at their leisure.

"If someone's coming by and wants to sit in the park, absolutely, it's open," Allansaid.

The new Mosaic Stadium is scheduled to be open for the 2017 season.
