The Edmonton Eskimos have signed free agent receiver Chris Getzlaf, a former star player for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Eskimos announced the move Thursday, noting that Getzlaf's CFL career started when he was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2007 CFL Draft and traded to the Roughriders.

In Regina, Getzlaf played for eight seasons and his resume includes 5,694 receiving yards on 368 receptions with 37 touchdowns.

He was with the team for two Grey Cup championships.

Getzlaf, 33, was a hometown favourite of fans but there was widespread speculation he would not return to the club after becoming a free agent.
