Old Mosaic Stadium is winding down and the City of Regina is preparing its farewells.

A $278-million stadium is being built on Elphinstone Street.

It will be the new home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The team will wrap up its 2016 season at the old stadium, before migrating to the new venue in 2017.

With the end drawing near, the city on Wednesday announced a series of commemorations.

That will include a "kick-off celebration" on May 21. The city says attendees with be ableto take photos, enjoy a free barbecue, and hearstories about the stadium.

The city is also also running a contest called "What's Your Stadium Farewell Event?".

The contest encourages community organizations to submit a proposal to host their own farewell event.

The city is also calling on artists to submit proposals for a commemorative art piece to be commissioned.

"It's going to be a really fantastic year, a special year," Mayor Michael Fougere said.

"I'm really looking forward to the farewell season to say good-bye to Mosaic stadium."
