Provincial life expectancies
P.E.I. 80.9 years
N.B. 80.8 years
N.S. 80.4 years
N.L. 79.6 years

P.E.I. continues to have the highest life expectancy in the region.

The latest figures from Statistics Canada, released this week, show the life expectancy on the Island is 80.9 years, just edging out New Brunswick.

The provincial life expectancy is still a little below the national average of 81.5 years.

Women on the Island still live significantly longer than men, with a life expectancy of 83.2 versus 78.6 years.

Clarifications

  • A previous version of this story stated that people who are born on P.E.I. live longer. In fact, Statistics Canada calculates life expectancy based on province of residence not province of birth.
