UPS to deliver U.S. parcels to the Maritimes 1 day faster

Residents of the Maritimes who like to shop from U.S. retailers online are getting their purchases one day earlier through the United Parcel Service, according to the company.

"E-commerce is growing substantially at 16.1 per cent in Canada and that's in the top five of the world, so this is something that linesup beautifully to give our customers what they want We're giving them more value," said UPS international marketing manager DavidRosenberg.

Starting last month, the company reorganized its shipping routes so customers in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebecnow get their U.S. shipments within one to six business days on average, according to UPS.

"We constantly review our procedures and we were able to find a different way to get our customers their shipments a day faster without incurring any additional new hires or any additional assets orpurchases," said Rosenberg.

More efficient routes

He said there's no additional charge to customersfor the faster delivery either.

"We've gotten creative in finding additional ways to handle the same volume to the same destination and do it through a more efficient route."

UPS said this is a valuable time savings for eastern Canadian customers. Six million parcels are shipped from the U.S. into Canada each year, according to the company.

"I think that if you can do anything to improve the service that you offer your customers without increasing thecost I think that's a win for everybody involved," said Rosenberg.
