Unseasonably warm and wet in P.E.I. before winter rears its head again

It appears that a spring-like Thursday with rain, fog and unseasonably warm temperatures will be bookended by some decidedly winter weather on P.E.I.

Wednesday night brought snow and howling winds to the Island. As temperatures rose overnight, the precipitation turned to rain, which is expected to last through Thursday, bringing about five to 10 millimetres.

P.E.I. RCMP warn that morning road conditions are slippery with slush, water and underlying black ice.

The big news Thursday is the forecast temperature high of 9 C.

But the balmy temperatures and umbrella weather won't last for long. The overnight low will be around 0 C with scattered showers or flurries developing.

And, for Friday, a special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada calling for snow that will "develop early Friday morning and persist throughout the day."

A low-pressure system will approach from the southwest on Friday, said the weather agency, "but there remains some uncertainty with the track of this system, which directly impacts the snowfall amounts and possibly the precipitation type at this time."

CBC meteorologist Peter Coade said the Island can expect a mostly sunny day Saturday.

"However, there is another disturbance that will swing in from the west with some showers and/or flurries for Sunday," he said.
