Prince Edward Island drivers will notice an increased RCMP presence on the roads over the next couple of days.

A two day highway traffic enforcement campaign kicked off Thursday. Queens District RCMP Sgt.Leanne Butler said the campaign is a gentle reminder.

"Road safety is one of our highest concerns here on P.E.I.," she said.

"And we find that if we get out there as a team and people see a lot of police cars, it really reminds them."

Butler said officers are looking for impaired drivers, speeding, seat belt use and texting and driving.

"Even if they are doing nothing wrong, it reminds them that they should be driving safely on P.E.I.and we find that we get good results in working that way," she said.

Roadside checks are being set up across the Island at random locations and times.
