The city of Summerside is preparing for visitors from across the Maritimes when Sting makes his only stop in the region on his concert tour in June.

The concert was announced early Tuesday morning and Amy Smith, a waitress at the Link restaurant, said the hotel connected to the restaurant is already half filled for the June 24 concert.

"We appreciate the business, and everyone's really excited about it," said Smith.

It tooks months to negotiate the Sting concert, says Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart. (CBC)

Mayor Basil Stewart said it took months to get the deal in place, and the city is expecting a lot of visitors, just as it had for Elton John in 2011.

"We anticipate a lot from off-Island out of this one," said Stewart.

"The last one we put on we had between 20 and 25 per cent of the people from off-Island."

Tickets price will range from $55 to $120, with about 5,000 tickets available.

Elton John's concert sold out in two hours, and a second concert was scheduled. There's no word on whether that could happen with Sting. There is little time for a second show, with concerts scheduled in Connecticut on June 22 and St. John's June 26.

The Sting concert will be June 24. Tickets go on sale Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.
