World sledge hockey challenge heads to Charlottetown in December

The world sledge hockey challenge will be held December in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Hockey Canada announced this weekend.

The tournament will take place at the CARI Complex on the University of Prince Edward Island campus from Dec. 4 to 10.

"To think that I might have the chance to play in front of my family and friends gives me the chills," said Summerside's Billy Bridges, Canada's all-time leading scorer, in a news release.

The tournament just wrapped up this weekend in Bridgewater N.S with the U.S. taking gold over team Canada 3-2 in overtime.

"The fan support and the teams' community outreach activities with Bridgewater schools this week provide Islanders with a preview of what they can expect next December when the event comes to Charlottetown," said Dean McIntosh, senior director of events and properties for Hockey Canada.

Charlottetown also hosted the event in 2008 and 2009.
