People on P.E.I. are catching them all with official launch of Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go, the popular virtualreality game, has officially launched in Canada and people onP.E.I. are already trying to catch them all.

The game has players go outside and find Pokemon in their surroundings. The characters appear through the cameras of their smart phones and tablets.

A chance to exercise, explore

Lucas Calhoun, 7 years old, played in Victoria Park Monday.

"You walk and it gets you exercising, off the couch," said Calhoun.

The game isn't just for kids Calhoun's uncle, Craig Nash said the game can change your exercise habits for the better.

"I normally do 40 to 60 minutes of walking I did over two-and-a-half hours," said Nash.

Keegan Muir said he enjoys getting to explore the Island.

"It's almost like you're excited to see what you're going to run into and it actually encourages you to go to different parts of the Island that you never would have," said Muir.

Fun for the whole family

For some people, the game is a family affair. Shirley Perry was excited when the game was officially released in Canada.

"It was like woohoo yes, let's go! And so everybody, my daughters and my son-in-law we all play," she said.

Players wanted

The game has even hatched some creative marketing ideas. Freak Lunchbox, a candy store in downtown Charlottetown, has a sign on its window tempting players to come on in.

"From inside the store you can actually access two Pokestops, which are actually for those of you who don't play Pokemon Go you can get a whole lot of Pokemon from there, set up lures which attract a whole bunch and attract people as well," said Chloe Trevors with Freak Lunchbox.
