Windy weather for P.E.I. Thursday into Friday

It will be a windy evening on P.E.I. Thursday and that wind will add an extra chill Friday.

'Strong northerly winds are my main concern'

It will be a windy evening on P.E.I. Thursday and that wind will add an extra chill Friday.

Therewill be light snow, andhigh winds are expected, says CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland.

"Most areas should see between two and six centimetresstarting this evening through the end of Friday, although local amounts near 10 centimetres are possible over parts of Kings County," said Scotland.

"Strong northerly winds are my main concern with gusts to 90 km/h possible on Friday."

A wind warning has beenissued by Environment Canadafor Kings County where the strongestwinds are expected. The Environment Canada website also said there is a risk ofblowing snow over exposed areas Thursday night and Friday.

The winds will ramp up overnight and continue Friday afternoon before gradually easing Friday evening, Scotland said. Blowing snow may affect travel due to poor visibility along exposed roadwaysFriday.

Elevated water levels and some coastal flooding is also possible, particularly along the North Shore during high tide. Aspecial weather statementremains in effect for Kings County where there is the greatest risk for storm surge for parts of the North Shore.

Thestrong winds will also produce a biting wind chill, Scotland said temperatures will drop into the minus teens Friday afternoon with a wind chill that will feel like between 20 C and 30 C, and there is a risk of frostbite for exposed skin.
