Tyne Valley honours late community leader with road naming

Tyne Valley, P.E.I., is honouring the late Clyde Minard by naming a street after the community leader.

Clyde Minard Way a newly constructed road next to the Hilton J. McNeil Seniors Building will be a part of the provincial highway system, according to a news release.

"Clyde Minard spent many years serving community organizations of all kinds in Tyne Valley, whether helping to found the Stewart Memorial Foundation or working for the Presbyterian Church," said Paula Biggar, minister of transportation, infrastructure and energy.

"Government is pleased to recognize a man who truly exemplifies the Island traits of hard work and community spirit."

Family proud Minard recognized by community

Tyne Valley Village Council recommended naming the road after Minard, who passed away on Oct. 3, 2006. In 2002, he was arecipient of theQueen's Jubilee Medal.

"We're just really proud and pleased to see our father recognized in this way,"said Minard's son Ken of Summerside, P.E.I. Ken Minard, along with other family members, recently travelled to Tyne Valley for the road naming ceremony.

"I'm grateful to the village and the provincial government for doing this. My father was very involved in the community and it is good to see him being remembered."
