13 new COVID-19 cases on P.E.I. announced Saturday, 2 testing clinics closed until Sunday

P.E.I. announced 13 newCOVID-19 cases on Saturday.

One of those cases is an individual at Whisperwood Villa, which was reported on Friday.

According to a press release from the Chief Public Health Office, all residents and staff at Whisperwood Villa were tested following the announcement of the case.

"The initial tests for all other residents and staff at Whisperwood Villa have been completed and are negative," the release said.

One of the other 12 cases is an individualfromMontague Consolidated Schooland another is fromBelfast Consolidated School,the release said.

"These cases are still under investigation and contact tracing is underway," the release said.

There have been 65 new COVID-19 cases over the past four days in PEI. There have been 488 cases since the pandemic began.

The number of active cases will be updated Monday.

A new list of public exposure locations will be issued later Saturday.

There are new flight exposure notifications:

• Air Canada 8332departing Toronto on Tuesday, Dec.14 and arriving in Charlottetown on Dec.15
• Air Canada 8218departing Montreal on Saturday, Dec.11 and arriving in Charlottetown on Sunday, Dec. 12
• Air Canada8332departing Toronto on Friday, Dec.17 and arriving in Charlottetown on Dec. 18

Anyone who travelled on this flight should monitor closely for symptoms of COVID-19 and if any symptoms develop, visit a drop-in testing clinic.

As of Dec. 15, about 95 per cent of Island residents age 12 years and over hadreceived at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 92per cent had two doses.

Almost 30per cent of children age 5-11 years have received their first dose. Over 11,000 people have received their third dose, or booster, of COVID-19 vaccine.

Closed testing sites reopening Sunday

COVID-19 testing sites in Charlottetown and Borden-Carleton closed Saturday due to the high number of incoming clients.

The 24-hour rapid testing site for visitors to P.E.I. at the Confederation Bridge remains open.

According to a statement from Health P.E.I., clinics at 64 Park St. in Charlottetown and on Dickie Road in Borden-Carleton were halted to allow staff time to process thetests before the end of the day.

Both testing clinics will reopen Sunday to both drivers and walk-in clients.

Testing is available tomorrow at the following locations:

• Charlottetown(64 Park St.from 8a.m. to noon.
• Borden-Carleton(20 Dickie Rd.)from 8a.m. to 4p.m.
• Wood Islands(198351 Weigh Station Road) from 9 a.m. to 4p.m.

The statement said the public is asked to be patient and prepare to waitgiven the "current outbreaks across the province."
