Green Gay Bulls sign mysteriously reappears at LGBT-friendly B&B

A colourful sign advertising the Green Gay Bulls Bed and Breakfast and Blair Hall Upholstery in Vernon Bridge has been returned, just as mysteriously as it disappeared.

A colourful sign advertising the Green Gay Bulls Bed and Breakfast and Blair Hall Upholstery in Vernon Bridge has been returned.

On the night of Aug.28, business owner Jim Culbert woke to the sound of a vehicle roaring away from his property on the Trans-Canada Highway and his dogs barking. When he investigated, the sign was missing something Culbert said would have required a ladder or people sitting on one another's shoulders.

But a week later, while vacationing in Ontario, good news.

"I got a call from my next-door neighbour," said Culbert."'Hey Jim, your sign's sitting outside your back door by your garbage buckets.' I said 'great!'"

The sign was not damaged.Culbertnoteshegot a quote of $400 to replace the sign.

Green Gay Bulls is an LGBT-friendly bed and breakfast, and Culbert is also a licensed marriage commissioner who performs many same-sex ceremonies.

"I think that because of CBC and the RCMP putting out their notices, everybody who listens to Compass or reads online knows what the sign looks like and they figured 'it's something I can't have hanging around,'" said Culbert, thanking the RCMP and CBC.

Not malicious

He'll likely never know if it was the thieves themselves who returned the sign or whether a third party found it and brought it back, Culbert added.

P.E.I.'s gay community has come a long way since Culbert used to have vandalism to his property and crank calls decades ago, he said.

"I think it was probably more hellery than maliciously doing something to me," he said.

Culbert plans to secure the sign a little more tightly to prevent future thefts.
