Green Party of P.E.I. names two government critics

The Green Party of P.E.I. has served notice it will be keeping an even closer eye on government.

Sally Bernard will be critic for Agriculture, Lynne Lund for Economic Development and Tourism

The Green Party of P.E.I. has served notice it will be keeping an even closer eye on government.

The party has announced two shadow cabinet critics that leader Peter Bevan-Baker says should have the government "a little concerned."

Sally Bernard, a grain and chicken farmer from Freetown, has been named as the party's critic for Agriculture.

Lynne Lund, who also serves as deputy leader and was the Green Party's candidate in October's Summerside-Wilmot byelection, has been named Economic Development and Tourism critic.

Bevan-Baker says he intends to name a full complement of shadow cabinet critics within the next year.

Bevan-Baker is the only Green Party MLAcurrently in the legislature, but he said as the party "assumes a larger role in the political life of the Island, Islanders deserve an opportunity to hear our perspectives on the full range of issues."

"I would imagine the government is a little concerned about this," he said. "They've had a pretty free ride for, in my opinion, much too long now."
