Island man faces sex-crime allegations from 25 years ago

A Charlottetown man appeared in P.E.I. provincial court Thursday, facing 11 sex charges alleged to have taken place in the early 1990s.

Philip Alexander Whittaker, 60, is charged with three counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual touching and two counts of invitation to sexual touching against a young person under the age of 14.

He is also charged with two counts of sexual touching and two counts of invitation to sexual touching while being in a position of trust or authority over a young person.

Documents filed in court allege the incidents took place between June 1991 and January 1993.

Charlottetown police laid the charges last month at which time Whittakersignedan undertaking to stay away from young people under age 16.

Whittaker has not entered pleas to the charges. The allegations havenotbeen proven in court.

The case is adjourned until Nov. 17 so that Whittaker's defence lawyer can begin to review the evidence.
