Investigation of P.E.I. school bus collisions involving same driver continues

The investigation continues into two school bus collisions in eastern P.E.I. involving the same driver.

The incidents happened over two consecutive days last week.

The first crash happened on the morning ofMay 17. Police say a school bus carrying students collided with a pickup truck in Newtown Cross. No one was hurt in the incident.

The next morning a bus driven by the same driver went into a ditch in Eldon, before driving back onto the road, according to RCMP. One student was on the bus at the time andasked to be let off.

Police issued a seven-day driving suspension to the 55-year-old driver.

Substitute driver stays on

The man's drivingsuspension by police has ended, but their investigation continues, RCMP said.

John Cummings, manager of policy and planning with the English Language School Board says a substitute driver was assigned to the route last week and will remain in that role "for the foreseeable future."

Cummings said he couldn't comment on the employment status of the driver involved in the two collisions sayingit was a confidential personnel matter.

The school board is doing its own investigation and that is also still ongoing.
