A handful of Islanders protestedagainst COVID-19vaccinations outside the home of Dr. Heather Morrison on Saturday.

The protesters showed up to the Charlottetown home of P.E.I.'s chief public health officerwith signs criticizing immunization measures, especially the rollout of the pediatric vaccine.

Premier Dennis King condemned their actions.

"Dr. Morrison and her young family do not deserve this and it will not be tolerated,"King said in a statement.

"I am disgusted with the fact that protesters showed up at the private residence of our chief public health officer this afternoon."

Clinics across the province started administering the first dose of the pediatric vaccine last month after it was approvedfor use in children ages five to 11by Health Canada. Some of the protesters' signs said the province should have waited longer before allowing children to receive it.

Experts say the vaccine went through a rigorousreview process before it got approved.

The province has recently experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases, including two school-related outbreaks and several cases at early learning centres.

King applaudedMorrison's work during the pandemic.

"Dr. Morrison's steadfast leadership has guided our province through this pandemic for 22 months and we are known for being one of the safest jurisdictions in the world because of it," he said.
