The Crapaud Exhibition in central Prince Edward Island will have a special place for Mi'kmaq culture this year.

Elmer MacDonald, who has been an organizer of the exhibition for 40 of its 64-year history, said that will include integrating Mi'kmaq ceremony into the opening event.

"The first thing that's going to happen is it's going to be an opening prayer that's going to be conducted by elder Barbara Bernard and also a smudge which is a beautiful quiet time," said MacDonald.

"We'll have a beautiful, what they call, a heartbeat of Abegweit, which is an honour song done by the drummers."

A special tent will highlight Mi'kmaq culture through the weekend.

The exhibition, which opens Friday, also features some of the classic events: tractor pulls, a potato peeling contest and a talent show.
