P.E.I. job numbers down in March

P.E.I.'s economy had a decline in full-time and part-time jobs in March compared to the previous month.

According tojob numbers released by Statistics Canada on Friday, P.E.I.'s unemployment rate rose to 10.1 per cent in March, compared to 10 per cent in February.

Also, fewer people, 62,000, wereemployed full-time in March compared to 62,200 in February.

Part-time jobs also declined to 10,700 in March from 10,800 in February. The participation ratealso dropped in March, to 65,800 from 66,000 in February.

But,compared to March 2016, the total number of people employed last month increased slightly by 1.7 per cent.

In Canada, the unemployment rate rose in March to 6.7 per cent from 6.6 per cent in February.

Corrections

  • A previous version of the story stated 60,000 people were employed full-time in March, down 2,000 from February. In fact, 62,000 people were employed in March, down 200 from February.
