P.E.I.'s Jeffrey Lea Hogg guilty of online dating assault

An Island man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman he met on an online dating site.

The decision on 35-year old Jeffrey Lea Hogg was handed down Wednesday in Charlottetown by Chief Provincial CourtJudge Nancy Orr.

Hogg testified in his own defence at his criminal trial last month. On WednesdayOrr called Hogg's testimony "not credible."

Court heard at trial the assault took place on a boat in New London last August, after Hogg lured the woman there. He used a false name and promised her a job.

Hogg claimed the sexual activity that took place on the boat was consensual. The judge told courttext messages exchanged between Hogg and the victim clearly indicateHogg lied in his testimony.

Hogg was previously convicted of sexual assault in an incident four years ago, after he lured a woman using a false name, on the same online dating site.

Hogg was sentenced to 27 months in prison and that conviction was upheld following appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Hogg is being held in custody, and will return to court June 6 to set a date for sentencing.
