Five firefighters from P.E.I. are in Nova Scotia to help with a forest fire in the southern part of the province.

"On Friday, five staff from the Department of Land and Environment left to assist with the Nova Scotia fires," said Land and Environment Minister Robert Mitchell in a news release.

The firefighters are assigned to the fire at Seven Mile Lake, which only Monday was declared to be contained, thanks in part to rain showers that fell on Sunday.

Mitchell said the firefighters would likely be in Nova Scotia for one to two weeks, and stay at a campground in Caledonia.

The Seven Mile Lake fire covers 395 hectares, and is one of 17 forest fires that have broken out in the province since last week.
