A new initiative on P.E.I. hopes to get people out and closer to the farmers who grow their food.

The P.E.I. Agriculture Awareness Committee is looking for host farms to create a P.E.I. Barn Quilt Trail. The trail will feature barns painted with quilt patterns.

The idea is to get people out exploring the countryside.

"Because barns are spaced at varying intervals, locating each one would be like a scavenger hunt over rural roads, an adventure in agri-tourism," said the committee's news release.

The trail would include information on host farms and their history.

The committee is looking to launch the trail in September with 25 farms, and eventually include 75 farms.

Interested farms can register on the P.E.I.Barn Quilt Trail website.
