Century-old anchor snagged by fisherman finds buyer

It was an unusual catch for P.E.I. fisherman Charles Doull, but it has turned out to be a lucrative one.

Doull has found a buyer for a two-metre high anchor, estimated to be about 100 years old, that he snagged with his scallop dragging gear in the Northumberland Strait off Borden-Carleton. The anchor fetched $700.

Doull said the buyer plans to make a display of it in the front yard.

"He's got a real nice house up there. They're going to put a flower bed out in front," he said.

"You'll have it all painted and sand blasted it will be nice to see it when he gets it all finished."

The anchor, which weighs about a tonne, had to be hauled ashore with a truck because it was too heavy for his scallop boat to lift.
