P.E.I. murderer denied parole

Kevin McMurrer, who was sentenced to life in prison for the second-degree murder of his ex-wife, was denied parole by the National Parole Board on Monday.

McMurrer, 48, shot and killed Carrie McMurrer in Summerside in October 1989. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced in 1990.

McMurrer was first paroled in 2001, and several times since then, but ended up back in prison for violations or new offences.

He has had problems with prescription medicines, and was once charged with assault against a woman he was having a relationship with while on parole.

McMurrer is being held in Springhill institution in Nova Scotia.
