Halifax runner wins P.E.I. marathon

Jamie Lamond of Halifax was the first to cross the finish line in the full P.E.I. Marathon with a time of 2:41:58.

The 31-year-old said it's his first marathon winandfirst time running in the annual P.E.I. event.

Lamond said he would be celebrating with a hot bath tonight.

"The start line was definitely the worst," said Lamond. "But is was all good. Lots of great people on the field, lots of great volunteers that we thank very much."

It was a cold and wet start for the runners in the12thannual event.

But the sun came out for those finishing the 5K and 10K runs.

The full marathon started at 8 a.m. AT. in the Prince Edward Island National Park.

The half marathon, 10K and 5Kstarted at 9 a.m. AT in Charlottetown atGraftonStreet and will finish at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Organizers were expectingabout 3,000 people to run, walk, cycle or wheel themselves alongthe route.

The first 6.5 kilometres of the course had to be re-routed due to road repairs in Prince Edward Island National Park.
