Liberals retain majority support in CRA poll

The Liberal government on P.E.I. continues to cruise along with a majority of voter support, according to a poll released by Corporate Research Associates Thursday.

The Liberal government on P.E.I. continues to cruise along with a majority of voter support, according to a poll released by Corporate Research Associates Thursday.

The poll shows the Liberals with support of 58 per cent of decided voters. That gives them a majority of decided votes, even taking into account the poll's 6.6percentage point margin of error among thedecided.

The Liberals have held that level of support since theCRA's November poll.

The Green Party saw the biggest change in its polling numbers, up to 16 per cent from 11 per cent, though that change is still within the margin of error.

Progressive Conservative support, at 20 per cent, at NDP support, at 7 per cent, were largely unchanged.

Those who wereundecided, refused to state or do not plan to vote comprised 25 per cent of those polled.

Leader preferences

Support for Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlan has slipped since late last year.

The May poll found support from 38 per cent of Islanders. That's down from 41 per cent in February, which is within the 5.6 per cent margin of error on the leader poll. In November, however, MacLauchlan had support from 48 per cent of Islanders polled.

Green Leader Peter Bevan-Baker's support remains volatile.

It was up five points in May, to 27 per cent. It was only 20 per cent back in November, but was 30 per cent in August.

Support for interim PC Leader Jamie Fox was steady at 13 per cent. NDP Leader Mike Redmond's rating fell marginally, from 10 to seven per cent.
