Island Fringe Festival awareness growing, say organizers

The Island Fringe Festival is expecting many performance companies from off-Island to participate in the event next year.

The festival, which features theatre, dance and other acts, enters its fifth year in 2016.

And word about the festival seems to be spreading.

Director Sarah Segal-Lazar says she has already received applications from all over Canada and as far away as Texas.

She says it's important for P.E.I. artists to meet artists from elsewhere.

"We have a thing on the application that asks, 'How did you hear about the Island Fringe?'" said Segal-Lazar.

"And for so many people to have said, 'the festival circuit or word of mouth' has been really amazing for us to know that people are coming to the festival, leaving, doing the festival circuit and telling people 'Next year you should apply to this festival because I had an amazing time.'That's a really exciting thing for us."

Applications for the festival are due Jan. 15.

This year's event takes place Aug. 4 to 7.
