Hospice PEI is warning Islanders of a canvassing scam in the Summerside area.

Alana Sprague, executive director of the palliative care association, said two separate people have contacted her group to say "some young people" were soliciting funds for Hospice PEI door to door over the last several days.

"We just wanted to advise the public that Hospice PEI is not currently fundraising door to door nor do we typically collect funds through that means," Sprague told CBC News Thursday.

The group has contacted local police, and Sprague recommends people approached by anybody claiming to be hospice fundraisers do the same.

People who want to donate to Hospice PEI can do so at their website.
